Title: Antique Portuguese Counter

Date Period: 19th Century

Dimension: 149×91×43 cm | 59*36*17 inches

Materials: Wood, Bronze

Additional Information: Colonial counter, in chestnut wood, legs and drawer cymbals with twisted and shaken in noble wood. Was fully recovered, with 10 drawers simulating 12, on saltwork with hollow and carved base with plant motif, carved finial, chiseled bronze fittings , has key. 149×91×43 cm | 59*36*17 inches. Originally, the counter was a box with drawers where various documents and values were kept. Using mainly the noble wood, it acquired national characteristics (Portugal) that distinguished it from its European counterparts. The decoration of trembling in the drawers, with apparently equal fronts, the more sculptural treatment, turned the legs and the contrast of dark wood with the shine of gilded ironwork, especially in the second half of the 17th Century, a matrix that was called the “national style ”.
