Description
Made for the American market, ca. 1840. The painting on the clock's upper shield depicts the Swiss Legend of William Tell, and the front of the shield is a platform stage with six automated musicians hat move when the music plays. The lower shield contains a painting on zinc with an enamel dial featuring a portrait of George Washington and two red lions. Motifs that included George Washington were popular items in the American export market. The clock rests on a contemporary wall bracket constructed from Beautiful flam mahogany.
