2 Chinese 19th Century Mandarin Court Civil Rank Badges, Silver Pheasant or Mandarin Duck, each without vertical seam. The first in counted stitch with auspicious objects all edged in laid gold wrapped threads and surrounded by clouds, the second with an applique Bird Symbol in laid silver or white gold wrapped threads, the background with trees, clouds and waves in laid gold wrapped threads, each matted and framed. Height of the second slightly larger bird embroidery 10 inches (25.4cm.) X width 11 1/4 inches (28.5 cm.). PROVENANCE: Each notated to back of frame: From the Collection of Marie L Steensby, the first bought in Hong Kong in 1919, the second in Shanghai in 1921.
Condition
Each is part covered by a mat and the embroideries have not been examined without frames or mats. The visible embroidery appears in good condition with occasional loose threads.
