BACKSTORY: This work of Native American history was originally produced by the Keystone View Company, which began in 1892, after out competing and acquiring the negatives of it’s eminent rival publishing company Underwood and Underwood-the firm that pioneered the field of stereo views and lantern slides. The Keystone View Company became the largest business of it’s kind in the world and upon it’s demise the inventory of negatives -weighing more than 30 tons-were donated to the California Museum of Photography at the University of California Riverside.
