Péter Benedek (Uszód, June 29, 1889 - Budapest, December 25, 1984) is a Hungarian naive peasant painter.Self-taught. He worked as a farmer and then as a factory worker in a military plant during World War I. His instinctive talent was discovered here by Jenő Bálint, who became his patron. He organized his first exhibition of his collected works in 1923. Contemporary criticism and the art community also received his art with great acclaim. Peter Benedek was the first "naive" to achieve significant artistic success. From the late 1930s onwards, his works were only featured in auction exhibitions. It was forgotten in the 40s and 50s. He worked as a day laborer again. He lived in Uszód, Kalocsa, from 1949 in Cegléd.
It was not until the 1960s that his art was rediscovered. He has a memorial house in Uszód. He drew his themes from village life and his own environment. He painted life pictures, still lifes and portraits. His self-portraits stand out among his works. His works are characterized by an objective, emotionless, naturalistic representation.
