Map of Egypt focused on the course of the Nile River, with an elaborate title cartouche including monuments and palms.

The Robert de Vaugondy family was a father-son team of cartographers and map publishers situated in Paris in the eighteenth century. Didier ran the business with his father, Gilles, who was the nephew of cartographer Pierre Moulard Sanson. Their business began to flourish after they inherited a large number of works by the Sanson family in 1731. The Robert de Vaugondy family was well known for their accuracy and attention to detail, which is particularly notable in their North American and Asian maps.

Didier normally signed his work "Robert de Vaugondy" while his father used "M. Roberts" ("M" for Monsieur) or "Gilles Robert." Often these signatures are the only way to discern who made what at the firm. Didier also published celestial and terrestrial globes, served as a royal censor and was a "Geograohe du Roi" (Geographer of King Louis XV).
