He was first employed by band leaders Harry James and Tommy Dorsey and went solo in the 1940's. He signed with Columbia Records in 1943. His first album was "The Voice of Frank Sinatra" in 1946. In 1953 he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "From Here to Eternity". Hi signed with Capitol Records in 1953 and released "In the Wee Small Hours", "Songs for Swingin' Lovers", "Come Fly with Me", "Only the Lonely" and "Nice 'n' Easy". He started his own label, 'Reprise Records' in 1961 and had success with albums like "Ring-a-Ding-Ding!" and "Sinatra at the Sands". He was a founding member of the Rat Pack and hanged out with celebrities and statesmen like John F. Kennedy. In 1965, he released "September of My Years" and starred in television special "Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music" which won an emmy award. He also released iconic hits like "Strangers in the Night" and "My Way". His hit "New York, New York" was a top 40 in 1980. He was nominated for Best Actor in "The Man with the Golden Arm" and starred in "High Society", "Pal Joey", "Guys and Dolls" and "On the Town". He received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in 1983 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Ronald Reagan in 1985 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1997. He was the recipient of eleven Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Trustees Award, Grammy Legend Award and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He was born Francis Albert "Frank" Sinatra.
