Description
United States Model 1832 Artillery short sword, with GGS inspection mark (George G. Saunders?). Civil War period. Probably manufactured by Ames. Military mark is worn and hard to read. "U" of "US" able to be read. Some oxidation on blade and hilt, blade is loose in hilt. About 26" long by just under 4" wide. Blade: about 20" long. Hilt: 5 1/2" long.Knights of Pythias ceremonial sword. Includes scabbard and leather case with cloth inner sleeve. Leather-wrapped hilt with figural pommel and inscriptions on scabbard with "F.C.B" (Friendship, Charity, Benevolence). The sword blade is clean and shiny, bright steel with bronzing / gilding on blade. Minor areas of oxidation. Figural decoration and personally inscribed "Louis Sherwin". Manufactured by the Ames Sword Company in Chicopee, Massachusetts. 34 1/2" long by 5" wide. Blade: 26" long. Hilt: 8 1/2" long (partially overlaps blade). Leather case in as-is condition, with partial inscription remaining, also naming Louis Sherwin.Keywords: rapier, masonic, army
