Second half 19th century, pine. Iron tacks. Possibly a scrub box with compartment in bottom. Original blue paint. Iron tacks, ring hanger. Slide lid is a replacement. Late note on back "From Aunt Myrt and the Junkins Family for Spills or candles, sometimes salt". Wear. 17.25"h.

Blue on box has wear, some darkening, crazing and yellowed varnish. The paint doesn’t go into shrinkage seams and nothing shows up under blacklight as overpaint on the exterior surface of the box. The lid is a well done replacement with very good color matching but without an overvarnish.
