Description
Connecticut, ca. 1830, poplar. Original red and black grain decoration. Bonnet has scroll crest and lift out replaced glass pane. Case has molded waist and tombstone top door. Wooden works and face with original paint and "R. Whiting, Winchester". Face has flaked area, weights held by fishing line, edge wear and minor loss. With weights and pendulum. 84"h.
Condition
Old varnish, you can see vertical brush strokes over the grain paint on the sides of the case and bonnet. There is a separate board for the back of the bonnet, it is no longer attached and has several nails and screws in it.
No breaks to crest or feet but there is considerable edge wear, especially to the feet which also have some paint wear.
Two pieces of wood above and below the case door have some shrinkage but no loss.
