Oceania, Eastern Papua New Guinea, Morobe Province, Angu (sometimes Kukukuku) peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. An intimidating club with a lengthy slender wooden pole. A flat stone disc is hafted on one end and held in place by centrally drilled hole and woven fiber cord wrapped around both sides of the stone socket. The Angu people were formidable warriors and known as the Kukukuku by their enemies. The Agnu fashioned clubs such as this example, for raiding villages, and cutting down anyone unfortunate enough to stand in the way. Size: 41.5" L x 7" W (105.4 cm x 17.8 cm)
