**First Time At Auction**
Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A beautiful and wearable ring, cast from bronze to present a thin band and a thick top portion with incised diagonal grooves, giving it a spiralized appearance. Rings like this example would have been worn as a visible sign of wealth, and could have been used as currency, deposited in a river as offerings to the gods, or buried with their owners. Size: 1" Diameter (2.5 cm); ring size: 5.25
Provenance: private Carmichael, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1990s
