Classical World, Etruria, ca. 7th to 4th century CE. An elegant low ceramic plate, an iconic Etruscan type known as Bucchero ware, wheel made pottery fired to a glossy black. It features a wide, flat rim and shallow basin. Some researchers believe that the black coloration of Bucchero ware was designed to mimic the color of metal vessels. Size: 7.5" W x 1" H (19 cm x 2.5 cm)
Provenance: private Raleigh, North Carolina, USA collection, by inheritance, collected 1950s to 1990s

Intact, with two chips from rim but otherwise in very fine condition. Some wear to the glaze, mainly on the interior.
