GEORGE REDFIELD SPAULDING (1877-1962). Brigadier General United States Army who Served in both World War I & II.
c. 1931, Outstanding and Rare Mammoth Size Silverprint Photograph Inscribed and Signed, "To the best Helper in the World John T. Morgan. - (Signed) Geo. R. Spaulding", measuring 11" x 14", Choice Crisp Extremely Fine. This large Silverprint Photograph showing Spaulding as a Colonel seated at his desk in his military uniform. Boldly Signed and Inscribed at bottom right in a light area providing choice contrast with his vivid signature measuring a large 3.5" long. Scarce.
U.S. Army Brigadier General George Redfield Spaulding (1877-1962). He graduated from West Point in 1901 and was promoted Lieutenant Colonel on the staff of General Pershing.
On General Pershing's staff in Europe during WW I, he organized Engineer Corps administration, was promoted Colonel and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in November 1918. After the armistice he was a member of the Superior Board in charge of the occupation of Germany and the demobilization of U.S. Forces from Europe until July 1919.
Back in the U.S. he continued to work with the War Department and was a member of Mississippi River Commission. In 1936, he was promoted Brigadier General and retired on disability in 1938. He was recalled to active duty in 1941, as to co-ordinate requests for aid submitted by foreign countries and served until the end of the Second World War.
