Description
(1818 - 1861) Union brigadier general who met with Confederate representatives and declared 'This means war', he later put down the pro-Confederate Missouri militia and faced Ben McCulloch at Wilson's Creek where he was killed in action. Scarce A.L.S. 'N.Lyon' as Captain, 2nd Infantry, 1p. 8vo., Fort Randall, Nebraska Territory, Nov. 22, 1858. Lyon advises that among the general orders sent to him for his company, four are missing and he asks that they be sent. Expertly inlaid, fine condition. With period engraving.
