Minton Encaustic Gothic Revival Brown and Turquoise Ground Bread Tray
Date cypher for 1860
Raised registry diamond U-4-?-W, based on a designed by A.W.N. Pugin
Circular, the rim molded with sprays of wheat and the motto 'Waste Not' 'Want Not' 'Spare Not' in raised Gothic letters around the border, within yellow line rims, diameter 14 1/4 inches; Together with an English Majolica Brown-Ground Bread Tray. Circa 1880, brown painted J, of navette shape flanked by yellow scroll handles, the central quatrefoil well radiating grains of wheat, the border inscribed in Gothic script, 'WHERE REASON RULES / THE APPETITE OBEYS,' the reverse mottled in ochre-yellow, width 12 1/2 inches.
