Footnotes:
The inspiration for Rosalind Russell's delightful performance in Auntie Mame was none other than her very own sister, Clara, nicknamed 'The Duchess' because of her charismatic personality, innate flair, and ability to command a room. As Russell wrote in her autobiography, 'I could have played Mame with one hand tied behind me: I'd been living with her all my life.' To Russell, her sister was 'at once totally sophisticated and absolutely naïve,' both traits of which were evident in Auntie Mame's character as well. Auntie Mame is Russell's signature role for which she was awarded a Golden Globe Award® and an Academy Award® nomination for Best Actress.
