Ancient Canosan Pottery Kantharos c.4th century BC. Size 10 5/8 inches High. x 7 3/8 inches Wide. Elegant ceramic kantharos on tall foot with a wide disc base. The deep, steep-walled cup has a flaring rim and twin handles that rise above the sides in curlicues before meeting the top of the rim. This vessel was once painted in added pink and blue over a chalky white background, some of which is still visible. The clay is buff, with the decoration applied directly to it without the use of slip. Scattered surface deposits.
