Description
1870 Gold Rush California 1st/1st Luck of Roaring Camp Harte American Indians
“The Luck of Roaring Camp” is a famed short novel by Bret Harte. Following the gold rush of the mid-19th-century, Harte, like many authors, used that as inspiration for his stories. Roaring Camp follows the story of a boy born into a gold-mining camp in California and describes the events of his life, many of which were based on real-life events in California (mine camps, floods, rivers, etc.). It also makes mention of Indians in California, though it is not the sole focus of the narrative.
