This remarkable rare original plaque depicts one of the most recognized and admired figures in history, President Abraham Lincoln. (abstracted from a M.S. Rau Antiques ad for sale of an oil painting)
Relatively few pressed glass statuettes and ornamental pieces were made at Steuben. Nearly all produced from about 1928 to 1932, these consisted mainly of inserts for flower blocks.., relief-decorated panels and grilles, and decorative intaglio panels usually sold with supporting bases of glass or metal?.The last named also included a portrait head of Washington (Catalog No. 7452) and of Lincoln (Catalog No. 7491). P. 93 of The Glass of Frederick Carder, by Paul V. Gardner.
At page 52 of Garder is a picture III.89, of Gutzon Borglum, sculptor of Mt. Rushmore memorial c. 1937 showing Carder with a casting of a model of Lincoln's head, a prototype for Mr. Rushmore.
