Description
Superb Condition American Rifle Officer's Shako, Circa 1840 8" high including visor, the whole body covered in blue/green wool. 1" gold bullion bands at top and bottom with 3/4" V shaped gold bullion strips at each side. Tarred visor sits at a 45% angle and is bound in brass. 2 1/2" gilded brass plume base with red and white horsehair plume. Double woven gilt bullion suspensions on the front and heavy gilt bullion tassels at each side. Heavily gilded 1833 Dragoon eagle attached at the front. The 5/8" tarred leather chinstrap with eagle R buttons. The chinstrap has become detached but easily repaired. Visor tarred on both top and bottom and perfect. Lined with red/pink silk with 2" brown Moroccan leather sweat band. A beautiful piece of American military head gear in for all intents and purposes mint condition, and a form we have not previously encountered. A beautiful piece of American military headgear for quality, form and condition.
