[A JOURNAL OR HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF THE LIFE, TRAVELS, SUGGERINGS, CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCES AND LABOUR OF LOVE IN THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY….] [London: Northcott, 1694.] Folio. The present copy defective lacking title, one page of preface, and twelve pages of tables at end; otherwise collates complete, though the B and C signatures at front are bound out of place. Early marbled boards, rebacked. Numerous notes and markings in early ink. ************ This work was completed by Fox during the last years of his life, and it includes a lengthy preface by William Penn, who supervised the publication of this work shortly after the death of Fox. Penn's preface was also issued separately as "A brief account of the rise and progress of the people called Quakers." This edition also contains an 18 page "Testimony of Margaret Fox Concerning her late Husband George Fox." The "second" volume of this work was published in 1698 under a different title, "A collection of many select and Christian epistles." ESTC R3344. – From the collection of Scott Murphy.
Condition
Defective and sold as-is with pages lacking. Binding intact but worn, contents with various stains, 4 leaves chipped with slight loss of text or page number, several closed tears and paper repairs (mostly near front, preface) and first leaf of preface silked. Sold as-is with all faults.
