"Friendship" by Hugh Black, published by Fleming H. Revell Co, New York, First edition, later printing with 1912 on the title page and copyright 1898.
Hard boards, original publisher's green cloth decorated in gold, 5" x 7.1/4"; 237 pages, vintage ex-libris (Private book plate of Charlotte Thomas) inside front cover, gilt page top, all pages are decorated with red frame [see photos]; very good condition.
Hugh Black was quoted as saying "The subject of friendship is less thought of among us now than it was in the old world. Marriage has come to mean infinitely more. Communion with God in Christ has become to multitudes the primal fact of life. Nevertheless, the need for friendship remains.
"Friendship" was written with young men in mind. This charming little book full of wisdom, Black felt, would help young men in their future relationships. Chapters include The Miracle of Friendship, The Culture of Friendship, The Fruits of Friendship, The Choice of Friendship, The Eclipse of Friendship, The Wreck of Friendship, The Renewing of Friendship, The Limits of Friendship, and The Higher Friendship.
