Rare and Unusual Holmes Patented Carved Walnut Folding Chair, c. 1871. X-form folding legs joined by turned stretchers, labeled on a rear stretcher with original maker's label. "Holmes, Folding Chair, Patent Pending 1871". Francis Holmes was a furniture maker out of Boston, Massachusetts. Wood carving with nice floral detail. back and seat have been reupholstered with leather-looking fabric and nail heads around edge on back. Not original upholstery; dried and cracking. Arm straps are both broken. Needs refurbishing/new straps, but all wood and folding parts are in good repair. Nice, unusual antique piece worth restoration. Folded open back is 38" high, width from arm to arm is 21.5", seat is approx 17" x 17". Seat is 15.5" from floor. Back frame is 19" wide.
