Description
c. 1770-1810, walnut with yellow pine secondary, molded cornice, upper section with recessed framing around two doors having three raised panels each, upper returns with recessed molding within recessed molding, lower section with two doors having two panels each, flanked by fluted pilasters with capitals that form part of the mid-molding, backband molding, square bracket feet; door rails through-tenoned, no pegging, so possibly glued; moldings face nailed with cut finished nails; 96 5/8"H, face width 39 5/8", returns 7 3/16", 23 1/2" deep; good condition with repair and loss to top of cornice at right front and on return---Provenance: Purchased from the McIlwain family of Abbeville District, South Carolina, and has been attributed to South Carolina Lower Piedmont by the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts.
