Item Details
Description
"Inspector West Kicks Off", by John Creasey, published by Stanley Paul and Co. Ltd, London, UK, undated and unstated First Edition (1949).

Hard boards, original publisher's blue cloth with maroon lettering on spine [a little wear and fade]; 5.1/4" x 7.1/2"; 288 pages, a little soiling, very good condition.

Guy Randall suffered a sudden and violent death. Roger West of Scotland Yard is tasked with solving the case, but is perplexed as all leads seem to go back to a series of thefts from a chain of shops and at the same time, nearly everyone involved seems to belong to the same Football Club. It is a very unusual and complex case which has an equally surprising conclusion as West quite literally attempts to identify the criminals behind the killing in front of thousands of spectators at one of the Club's games.

John Creasey (1908-1973) was born in Southfields, Surrey, England and died in New Hall, Bodenham, Salisbury Wiltshire, England. He was the seventh of nine children in a working class home. He became an English author of crime thrillers, published in excess of 600 books under 20+ different pseudonyms. He invented many famous characters who would appear in a whole series of novels. Probably the most famous of these is Gideon of Scotland Yard, the basis for the television program Gideon's Way but others include Department Z, Dr. Palfrey, The Toff, Inspector Roger West, and The Baron (which was also made into a television series). In 1962, Creasey won an Edgar Award for Best Novel, from the Mystery Writers of America, for Gideon's Fire, written under the pen name J.J. Marric. And in 1969 he was given the MWA's highest honor, the Grand Master Award.
