Up for sale here we have a Georges Braque Large Aquatint and Etching, titled "Les Marguerite (Daisies)”, from his series of floral illustrations. Additionally, the piece is hand signed and numbered 109 of 300, was published in 1950 by Maeght, and comes with a gallery certificate guaranteeing its authenticity. Furthermore it is one of Braque’s best, and most desirable pieces, showcasing his captivating vision and remarkable genius in developing expressive images of flowers. Finally, it is of impressive craftsmanship and size, measuring approximately 35.75 x 23.375" (archival matted 28" x 18.5") and 44" x 36" with its custom frame. Making this one of our personal favorites by Braque.
Georges Braque (1882-1963): Along with Picasso, considered to be one of the founding fathers of Cubism. The two were very close in age, 25 and 26, when they met as inspiring artists and would become colleagues and life long friends. However, in 1912, while serving in the French Army, Braque was struck in the head by a bullet and stopped painting for almost 2 years. After recovering, he continued life as the purist painter of the time with great understanding of color. Today his remarkable artworks can be viewed in some of the most prestigious museums including: The Louvre, The Guggenheim, and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
*Please note, due to the limited amount of space most items are framed just prior to the start of auction, thus the frame you see pictured might not be currently available. If not we will do our best to frame it in a similar style and color.
