Up for sale here we have a Georges Rouault color etching, titled "Le Clown Jaune”, from his Cirque Suite. Additionally, the piece is signed and dated (1930) in the plate, is referenced by Wolfsy as #207, is from the edition of 270, was originally purchased from Horizon Gallery, and comes with a gallery certificate guaranteeing its authenticity. Furthermore it is one of Rouault’s best, and most desirable pieces, showcasing his captivating vision and remarkable genius in developing images of clowns. Finally, it is of impressive craftsmanship and size, archival matted to 14.5" x 11", and 25" x 20" with the custom frame. Making this one of our personal favorites by Rouault.


Georges Rouault (1871 - 1958): A french born artist who caused quite a stir with his controversial artworks featuring prostitutes, clowns and judges. Rouault's career as an artist started when he was a teenager, apprenticing for a stained glass maker. He went on to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, where he became good friends with Gustave Moreau, and also the Louvre. Using bold black outlines, he differentiated his bold color choices, in a style that is a combination of Fauvism and Expressionism. Today his works are on display in some of the finest art institutions around the world: Art Institute of Chicago, Hermitage Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Tate Gallery and many others, where they are enjoyed by critics and collectors alike.
