Description
1871 1ed Mark Twain Burlesque Autobiography First Romance Illustrated Classic
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
― Mark Twain
“Autobiography and First Romance” by Mark Twain, is another nonsensical spoof from one of Americas best 19th century authors. Sprinkled with absurd names, alias and deeds the family tree soon fills with shadowy and undesirable sorts of all shapes and sizes. In the second section, Twain tells the story of a ludicrously fabricated power struggle in a European Duchy. The intrigue gradually builds to an abrupt and surprising climax.
The book was not one of Twains personal favorites. Two years after publication, he bought all of the printing plates of the book and destroyed them.
This first issue edition is bound in the original publishers cloth and is illustrated throughout.
