ALLENBY EDMUND: (1861-1936) British Field Marshal of World War I, led the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in the conquest of Palestine and Syria in 1917 & 1918. A.L.S., Allenby, one page, 8vo, Wetherby Gardens, London, 24th March 1935, to Sir Edward. Allenby replies to his correspondent's letter and remarks 'I shall be happy to have the honour of giving away the prizes at 56, Davies Street on the 23rd April'. VG 56 Davies Street, in London's Mayfair, was the location of the Garrison/HQ of the 9th London Regiment (Queen Victoria's Rifles) from 1922-37.
