Description
BERENSON BERNARD: (1865-1959) American art historian specialising in the Renaissance, a major figure in the attribution of Old Masters. A.L.S., B. Berenson, four pages, 8vo, Paris, 26th October 1923, to Mr. Riches, on the printed stationery of the Hotel Beau-Site. Berenson announces 'I am delighted to hear that Dr. James will not mind having my contribution bound up with his' and continues 'I have no idea, as yet, what I shall find to say about yr. mss. I shall look around when I get back to my library & if I require photographs that I do not already have I will let you know. What perhaps would be the best help would be to read all that Dr. James has to say, if indeed he has already put it in writing', further adding 'I am rather busy here. The working hours are few & betw.[een] the Bibl. Nat. (where they are polite & obstructive) & the Louvre (where they are obstructive but not polite) I find every minute taken, & not always productively'. VG
