Vintage pair of solid brass ship bookends marked by Peerage, England. 1940s-1950s.

Each bookend is 6" [15.2cm] tall, they are 5.1/2" [14cm] wide at their widest point and 3" [7.7cm] wide at the base. The green velvet on the bottom shows some wear, the vintage brass shows some patina, very good condition.

Pearson, Page, Newton & Minchew Ltd. Of Ernest Street, Holloway Head, Birmingham, were brass founders specializing on small solid brass items. Several good designs for brass souvenirs were identified through their design registration during the early 1900s. According to Oldcopper.org, Peerage Brass was a successor to Pearson Page. The 'Peerage' name was first used during the recovery period after the end of the Second World War (1946).
