Description
2 Napoleon Coronation hand colored Engravings, "Plate 26, Colonel General des Cuirassiers" and "Colonel General des Dragons" from designs by Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767-1855) and Charles Percier (1764-1838) engraved by François Pigeot (1775-1834); double matted and gilt gesso framed. Height of frame 24 3/4 inches (63cm.) X width of frame 17 inches (43.5 cm.). NOTE: Certainly started by 1805, these are more likely from the official record of The Coronation of H. M. Emperor Napoleon, traditionally known as 'Livre du Sacre' from the 1811-16 printing of 'Le Sacre de l'empereur Napoléon dans l'église métropolitaine de Paris le 11 frimaire an XIII... 2 décembre 1804', and was not paid for until 1815 after Napoleon's Abdication, so the original production was very limited until a small edition, with a text by Frederic Masson, was published in 1908. NOTE: From a group of framed antique hand colored prints purportedly removed from a redecoration of "The Colony Club, New York" most with the words 'Colony Club' and location codes to reverse.
