4 volumes (of the eventual 13). Printed on rectos only. Profusely illustrated with 97 hand-colored lithograph botanical plates. Extra engraved title pages in each volume. (Small 4to) 22.1x18 cm (8¾x7"), quarter morocco and marbled boards with gilt rules, spines lettered in gilt, all marbled, marbled endpapers.
Benjamin Maund (1790-1863) was a British pharmacist, botanist, printer, bookseller, fellow of the Linnean Society (1827) and publisher of the Botanic Garden and The Botanist. He served on the committee of the Worcestershire Natural History Society where he started a monthly botanical publication.
Condition
Some chips and abrasions to leather, rubbing to marbled boards and at extremities, tear to leather at heel of Vol. IV with segment of panel lifting; some cracked hinges, offsetting from some plates, foxing to engraved title pages; very good.
