Description
This is a signed painted wooden plaque of a pony from New York artist and visionary Arto Monaco (d.2003). Monaco began his career as a set designer for MGM, Paramount, Warner Brothers, and Disney Studios. While serving in WWII he built a German village in the Arizona desert to train soldiers. He moved back to the Adirondack region and began to create fairytale style village amusement parks. He developed Old McDonald’s Farm in Lake Placid, Frontier Town in North Hudson, The Land of Make Believe in Upper Jay, and Gaslight Village in Pottersville first, and later, in Lake George. Storytown became what is now known as The Great Escape. The plaque is inscribed to Josie Wood of the Charles R. Wood estate. Charles R. Wood founded Storytown and built up what became the Great Escape.
