[MILITARY - UNIFORMS & ACCOUTREMENTS]. New York Militia frock coat, [ca 1870s-1880s].
Blue frock coat, approx. 30 in. chest, 25 1/2 in. sleeve, and 7 1/2 in. width at elbow. Features three rows of New York state "Excelsior" buttons at chest, high collar and cuffs with bullion embroidery and matching buttons, and one rank bar on each shoulder. 26 brass buttons on front, 3 buttons at each cuff, 2 on collar, and 10 on tail. "Excelsior" buttons feature an eagle over shield motif, with the shield consisting of stars and stripes alongside the state seal of New York, below which appears the New York state motto, "Excelsior." Buttons manufactured by Scovill Manufacturing in Waterbury, CT. Back splits into tails with ornamentation similar to that on cuffs and collar. Interior of jacket with beige cotton lining. Interior label "Kent & Miller." Kent & Miller was a Western New York clothier specializing in gentlemen's apparel ca 1880s.
Interior lining near center left chest with handwritten identification possibly "P Taffner." Small tag sewn in near collar with initials possibly "HT."
Scattered mothing, wear, light soil, some small tears and losses, but generally overall good condition.
