A PAIR OF CHARLES II STYLE PETIT/GROS POINT SILK AND WOOL NEEDLEWORK UPHOLSTERED WALNUT ARMCHAIRS, LATE 19TH/ EARLY 20TH CENTURY, each with tall rectangular padded backs and serpentine arched crests, covered in colorful silk and wool brown ground stitched needlework upholstery, centering a shaped cream ground reserve depicting a maiden beauty strolling with a courting youth playing his lute beneath the branches of a shade tree, amidst a stylized landscape and blossoming foliage bordered by large polychrome curling leaves, the other chair with similar needlework centering a couple in historic costume strolling beneath a shade tree and enclosed by leafy vine entwined strapwork, each flanked by curved arms ending in scrolling acanthus detailed hand rests centering floral paterae, on barley twist and block supports on a trapezoidal padded seat covered in matching upholstery with a reserve of two standing spread-winged courting birds flanking flowering foliage, over a brass nailed seat rail raised on short barley twist and block legs ending in stylized hairy paw feet and joined by a swirling foliage carved stretcher panel, above an "H" form barley twist and block stretcher. Each in good antique condition with expected wear on arms, legs, and feet, normal light scuff marks, small scratches, nicks, dings, and surface buildup in crevices throughout.
