DESCRIPTION: Fine original watercolor by listed artist and illustrator Hugh Laidman. The work is one of six by the artist we are selling from a series done at the 1967 South African Formula One Grand Prix race. It shows the crowd sitting alongside the racetrack. A group of men are rushing across the track to one of the cars. The grandstand can be seen far in the distance. The work is signed and inscribed with the location South Africa at lower right. Laidman began his artistic career as a one of the first combat artists in the US Marine Corps. After WWII he became a well known illustrator who did dozens of covers for many major magazines and also had a popular nationally syndicated cartoon strip.
