Hayim Nahman Bialik first staged the play in Hebrew, in 1918 Odessa Ukraine.
Mikhl Davidzon (1883-1941) was a Yiddish writer and poet, born in Nay-Konstantin, Ukraine, into a rabbinical family. Lived in Kishinev, Germany, Poland. In 1924 emigrated to the USA where he lived in Chicago and New York.
Golda Meir worked in both, Milwaukee PL and Yiddishe Folkshul, as well as in Chicago PL, although prior to this book publication.
