Description
President Andrew Johnson Autograph, a bold signature inscribed in black ink on vellum commission to A.H Edwards Major by Brevet for the 13th day of March for gallantry and meritorious services in the field. Countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton and given the 12 day of September 1866 in Washington. Measures approximately 19 3/8" x 15 3/4". In red ink manuscript registration attested by Asst. Adj. Gen. E. D. Townsend. . Note: Edwin M. Stanton, secretary of war under President Lincoln was removed by Johnson and was cause for Impeachment.
