Description
Two railroad passes from the Tabor & Northern Railway Co., #17 (1907) and #470 (1924). Both are in very good condition. Please see photo for details. Otha D. Wearin writes in the Annals of Iowa that, "The establishment of the Tabor and Northern Railroad, the world's shortest standard guage [sic] line (8.79 miles) between Tabor, Iowa, in Fremont County and Malveni, Iowa, in Mills County, was inspired by an effort to relocate Tabor College." Apparently, Tabor College was invited to relocate from Tabor to Malveni where there was a rail head. The Tabor town fathers decided to build a short line to Tabor to keep the college in town. Civic pride, don't ya know.Date: Country (if not USA): State: IowaCity: Provenance:
