Description

10th-11th Century AD. Gilt bronze, just over 7/8 inch diameter. Rounded front relief modeled as a floral swag or wreath. Flatback forming a ridged edge. The cross pin is seated in a notch. Worn from use and textured from burial, obscuring the detail. Worn in numbers, these were decorative as well as serving as a measure of protection from sword blows. See multiple images for a similar brooch with a sword cut shown for reference only. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored. On modern gilt neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
