Early 20th century AD. An olive-coloured Shiraz glass ewer with bell-shaped mouth, applied strap handle, sinuous S-curved spout, applied spiral to the shoulder, pontil base; Persia. 255 grams, 17cm (6 3/4"). Ex central London gallery; acquired from the UK trade in 2002; previously in the Professor Simon Digby (1932-2010) collection, Jersey, UK. Professor Simon Everard Digby MA (1932-2010) was an English oriental scholar, translator, writer and collector who was awarded the Burton Medal of the Royal Asiatic Society and was a former Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, the Honorary Librarian of the Royal Asiatic Society and Assistant Keeper in the Department of Eastern Art of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. He was also the foremost British scholar of pre-Mughal India. [No Reserve]
