Fun Facts : The three Warner Directors were expected to turn out ten six-minute cartoons each year, or one every five weeks! And, each director had its own lead designer, background artist, and a team of animators. Mel Blanc provided the common thread as the man of a thousand voices, and Carl Stalling is most recognized as the Music Director for the majority of the Warner Bros. shorts.
Bugs Bunny first appeared in the cartoon short Porky’s Hare Hunt , released in April, 1938.
Bugs Bunny has been the most enduring cartoon character of the 20 th Century along with Mickey Mouse and in 2002, Bugs was named by TV Guide as the greatest cartoon character of all-time!
There is a wide-held rumor that Mel Blanc was allergic to carrots. This just is not true! Mel Blanc actually did not like carrots and he didn’t swallow them upon chewing, regularly using a spittoon, as he had a problem chewing and swallowing them quickly, prior to moving onto his next lines.
Blanc tried numerous other foods, such as apples and celery, but nothing gave the “carrot-like sound” needed to do his Bugs Bunny voice-overs.
