Description
This piece makes you think literally outside the box. It is framed in only a corner of the frame which is done intentionally. Jordan Avery is a 17 year old fine artist and designer from Sarasota, Florida. Growing up and living in an area rich in the concepts of the fine arts and cultural diversity indoctrinated her into the global community from a very young age. Not only was she born in Sarasota, but so was her passion for the arts and people.Jordan’s education includes having graduated from high school early in order to take a gap year to further pursue her art. She has also taken classes at University of Maryland and Harvard University as a dual enrollment student. She has always been an excellent student, from ranking second in her class in the ninth grade, to consistently challenging her own limits by taking advanced University-level courses throughout high school. An art piece Jordan created while enrolled in the VPA Art Program at Booker High School won 1st place in the North County Art Show in Sarasota, FL in the Spring of 2019. That same year, she was commissioned by Booker’s Principal Dr. Rachel Shelley to complete an oil painting of her to be displayed alongside the portraits of the school’s previous principals in the front office. The painting hangs there to this day. Jordan plans to join the student body of Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall of 2022 as a visual arts major. In November of 2020, Jordan was signed by international art dealer Paul Sykes representing Art Avenue Gallery. Her artworks have been exhibited in the downtown location of Art Avenue, where she also conducts live painting sessions weekly.Jordan has an insatiable desire to bring about genuine change in the world and to humanity through her art. This desire is reflected by how she paints her subjects to be racially/ethnically ambiguous to reach all people, as well as to show how beautiful and diverse our world truly is. For example, her piece “Divinity” features racially ambiguous woman without a fixed identity meant to represent the divine feminine energy present in all women across the world. Jordan’s current mindset is also defined by the relationship she has with her mother, who is the primary reason she has had great exposure to the global community and is such an educated, unique and well-rounded individual. From an early age, Jordan’s mother introduced her to various cultures, races, religions and languages. This peaked her interest in foreign language and culture, and is part of the reason she includes such topics in her art. For instance, Jordan’s relationship with Japanese culture and art is ever-present in her work, and is especially reflected in the pieces “Geishaz” and “Hanamikoji Street.”Jordan also asserts the idea that every art piece is to have a defined purpose. That purpose may be to translate political, emotional, and other such impactful messages into a deeply thought-provoking image, but that purpose is not to simply serve an aesthetic. She has discovered that art pieces are to have a purpose or layers of purposes for its creation and existence that starts with the artist themselves. After all, an artist has a purpose for beginning a new painting or illustration just as the painting or illustration will take on a purpose on its own. Jordan’s art is not meant to sit on the wall of someone’s living room to serve as purely aesthetic. It is meant to facilitate a lasting and meaningful connection with the viewer, as her paintings are essentially an extension of herself. In essence, Jordan paints concepts relating to the human experience, as her ultimate goal is to make genuine connections between herself, her art, and her audience. Each piece is created with the intent to establish a deep emotional connection between it and the viewer, as this is how she translates the art’s true message(s) across and gives each of her pieces deep, intrinsic meanings.Jordan Avery is exclusively represented by ART AVENUE GALLERIES in Sarasota, Florida.
