A Rare Antique Islamic Timurid style Metal Dagger Hilt, Deccan, India Or Central Asia, Circa Probably 16th/18th century, of waisted form withbi-furcated pommel, the grip with a central bulb, the quillons finely cast as dragonheads flanking a palmette-form langetThedistinctive dragonhead quillons are taken from a Persian prototype and bring to mind the dragon-headed handles found on DeccanArts & Timurid metal and jade tankards as well as the two celebrated jade hilts in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul (see Popeand Ackerman 1938 - vol. VI, pl.1428c and 1428e). A late sixteenth-century Deccani dagger with similar pommel, grip and quillons isillustrated in Elgood 2004, p.175, no.16.28.
