Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. This collection of beads is simply gorgeous! Crafted from ancient components, this necklace is comprised of fourteen 95% (22K+) gold beads, and over fifty glass beads. The strand is pleasingly arranged with glass beads in tubular, lozenge, and triangular shapes and in striated hues of umber, cobalt, black, and white. The gold beads are columnar forms with flared rims at each end and are symmetrically interspersed amongst the glass beads. At the center is a dramatic crescent shaped pendant with swirling feathered patterns in white, brown, and yellow. The strands terminate with iridescent spherical glass beads flanking a gold hook clasp. Size of necklace: 22.75" L (57.8 cm); pendant bead: 2" L x .075" W (5.1 cm x 1.9 cm); quality of gold: 95% (equivalent to 22K+)
