Nissan Island Fish Basket, PNG, Early-Mid 20th C. Nissan is a small coral atoll that lies between the southern tip of New Ireland and Buka Island of the North Solomon Islands. Women used these baskets as dip nets to catch fish in the shallow lagoon of Nissan. Provenance: Michael Hamson Oceanic Art, Palos Verdes Estates, CA.
