The low relief foliate carving on the arm supports, shell headed cabriole leg and ring capped ball and claw feet are characteristic of mid-18th century Irish furniture. A wing armchair with similar reeded shell carving at the knees is in the collection of the Wintertur Museum, Delaware (see Glin & Peill, Irish Furniture, 2007, p. 111, fig. 145. A table with ball and claw feet topped with distinctive rings is illustrated Glin & Peill, ibid, p. 231, fig. 109.

Condition
Structurally sound. Nicely carved. General marks, nicks, scratches, minor cracks, scattered losses to carved elements and wear commensurate with age and use. Upholstery with light wear but clean and useable.
