Description
A set of four Regency giltwood, paint decorated and cane paneled armchairs
circa 1810

Each crest centered by crossed palmettes, with later tufted Fortuny loose cushion seats, one chair stamped BT to the underside.
height 30 1/2in (77.5cm); width 21 1/2in (55cm); depth of seat 19 1/2in (49.5cm)

Footnote:
These armchairs are almost certainly from a set of ten made for the youngest daughter of George III, Princess Amelia. The set was believed to have subsequently been used in the Royal Pavilion, Brighton.
Condition
Structurally sound. Surface decoration rubbed back and distressed revealing previous layers of decoration, primer and bare wood. Seats re-caned. Loose cushion seats later Fortuny upholstered with horse hair filling. Notable wear to legs. One with repairs to support stiles of crestrail. Repairs to legs at joints of seatrails.
